I created this journal for my friends who only visit the Madison Valley of Montana in the summer and ask me the question, "What are the winters like?" I hope you enjoy my photos and comments as I share my Montana moments this year. Perhaps it will give you a peek into what it is truly like to live here full time. Welcome to my world.

Migrating Birds
I love the springtime when the birds begin to return to the valley. It is like greeting old friends.
This year we were surprised by a new fellow called a Cassins Fench. He has the most amazing red head dress.
We checked them out in our trusty bird book and discovered they only appear briefly in the valley before heading up to the higher elevations.
We feel blessed to have them as guests even if it was for just a short time. With all the snow we have been getting lately our bird feeders are constantly full.

I tried to leave a comment last night but it must not have worked. Anyway, that's a beautiful bird and the color looks wonderful against the trees. Can't believe you still have snow but that's one of the difference between Montana and South Carolina.
